The penultimate round of the JLA Recovery autotest championship saw a field of twelve drivers brave the poor conditions to compete at the gravel venue of Crychan Forest, near Tirabad.
Starting off proceedings at car 1, after winning on home turf last time out, was Gary Powell setting some fast times in his classic Mini. He was closely followed by Keith Morgan in a Citroen Saxo VTR, Connor Powell in a Honda civic and Sam Davies in a Mitsubishi Colt.
As the morning tests progressed, Keith and Connor made inroads into Gary’s lead with Keith only trailing by one second at lunch, with Connor another four seconds back and leading the standard production class. At this stage Wil Lewis was leading the novice class, followed by Paul ‘Nobby’ Jenkins leading the rear wheel drive class in his Ford Escort Mk2, closely followed by Graham Davies in his Talbot Sunbeam.
However, it was to change in the afternoon, with Keith eventually overhauling Gary at the front and Graham’s consistency paying dividends to take the rear wheel drive honours after a couple of mistakes by Nobby.
Connor remained at the top of the standard production class and Wil Lewis hung on to the top of the novice class after a late charge by Ben Chillman.
